The Mary Alice Collection - North Carolina Autumn Colors 2007

The Mary Alice Collection - (Introduction by Ross)

Mary Alice received a Nikon D80 digital SLR camera last year from her husband for Christmas. She opened the box, looked at the camera, was intimidated by all the buttons and switches, and put the camera back in the box. There it stayed for the next eight months. Finally, in September, she took the camera out of the box, looked through the manual to get enough information to load the battery and memory stick, and took a few shots. I met Mary Alice on an Appalachian Trail hike in early October and encouraged her to take more pictures. I advised her to download Picasa2 Photo Manager (free from Google) and to get her own account on Picasa Web (also free from Google). Below is a sample of some of her first shots. I am absolutely floored. I have taken approximately 44,000 pictures in the past 3 years with my Nikon D50 and Mary Alice has taken less than 100 with her Nikon D80. I think her pictures are just as good as mine. Maybe even better. You be the judge.

All pictures are by Mary Alice except the introduction picture just below. Ross shot that one.

This is my favorite shot of Mary Alice. Of course, she doesn't like it, but she didn't write this web page. I did!!!

This is Belle, a Labradoodle. Mama was a yellow lab, and Papa was a Cafe Au Lait Standard Poodle!

Belle on the 3rd hole at Wolf Laurel Country Club in Western NC.

The large mountain in the background is Big Bald.  The Appalachian Trail runs right over the top of it. Big Bald is located within
the boundaries of Wolf Laurel. Throughout the year, many trail hikers pass through here. Some of the Wolf Laurel locals are
"Trail Angels" and leave fresh fruit and snacks for the hikers.

This is a side view of Wolf Laurel Country Club. Big Bald is in the back ground, socked in by clouds.

Belle likes to "play through" on the golf course late in the afternoon.

Peek-a-boo! Looks like a stuffed toy doesn't it?
