Little Lisa's Wetsuit

Each autumn as the days grow short
And the noonday shadow fades
Little Lisa hunts through all her shelves
Not for her roller blades
But for her ugly neoprene suit
That smells like old underwear
With a sticky zipper up the back
And knee pads that need repair.

Just a week ago the water was warm
How could she have foretold
That when she went to surf this morn
The ocean would be so cold
So she grabbed her ugly neoprene suit
And struggled with each leg
But when she reached the zip-up stage
You know she had to beg.

Two passing boys she knew from school
Responded to her call
"We'll zip that sticky zipper up,
Though the latch looks mighty small."
But half an hour later on
Lisa hadn't left the shore
Twas then her Mom just happened by
And asked, "What are you waiting for?"

"This suit, this suit, this ugly suit,
I think I'm going to cry!"
"Six guys couldn't zip the zipper up,
And four others helped them try."
"Oh dear", said Mom, with a wise look,
"It takes a special knack."
And then with just a twist or two
She zipped up Lisa's back.

One day at the Cocoa Beach Pier, I watched 5 guys try to help a young surfer girl zip up her old worn-out wetsuit (yes she was quite nice looking). This scene lasted at least 20 minutes. I just watched of course. However, this episode became the inspiration for Little Lisa's Wetsuit. Several months later I was in the Boardwalk parking lot near the pavilion, when a really cute girl walked over and asked me to help her fasten up her wetsuit. Was her name Lisa? I should have asked.
